Our Staff

Our teachers and the members of staff are professional teachers with tremendous experience teaching Public Speaking, Debate, Philosophy, American Literature and Theater Arts. The team includes high school debate coaches, directors, artists and authors. Our entire team is very passionate about teaching communication skills and debating. We believe that these are very important skills that each student should master. 

Here is a brief bio of our distinguished teachers

Romeo Marquez Jr. is an international keynote speaker, author of the #1 Amazon Best-selling book "The Success Messages," and creator & host of Superstar Success University. He has delivered more than a 1,000 presentations to over 200,000 audience members across the United States, Canada, Asia, and Europe on stages that range from TEDx to the National Speakers Association Convention.Romeo earned his B.A from UCLA's School of Theatre, Film & Television and had trained with an elite group of global success leaders personally invited by Jack Canfield, #1 New York Times Best-selling author and co-creator of the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series. As a professor for theatre, film & television professor and acting coach, his clients have worked on television shows with major productions such as Disney, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, ABC, CBS, and various commercials. Romeo's greatest passion is empowering the younger generation to utilize their voice, talents, and gifts to create greater positive change in the world.


Ms. Ilyssa Russ graduated with Cum Laude Honors from UC Irvine with her degree in English & Comparative Literature. She did her Masters from San Jose State with the highest honors. She has been a consultant and judge for high school teams throughout the Bay Area. She is a very popular Public Speaking and Debate teacher with Gurus Education.  She also teaches English Composition in San Jose State. She loves incorporating her love for current affairs, pop culture, and academic topics into her courses.


Ms. Jasmine Magallanes graduated with highest honors in Communication Studies from Chabot College. She has mentored college level communication majors and developed Public Speaking and Debate programs. Jasmine is also a professional singer, actress, stage performer, 18 Time National and World Champion Martial Artist and Hall of Famer. Her acquired fame and skills have led to multiple Hollywood invitations and productions. Among being a VIP special guest and performing for the Bruce Lee “Enter the Dragon” reunion, she was also invited to walk the red carpet with Jackie Chan for the 2010 Hollywood premiere of “The Karate Kid” movie. Jasmine is an amazing teacher who utilizes her many talents and experiences to inspire and teach students the needed skills required to achieve their fullest potential.


Teirrah McNair (aka Ms.T/Rev T) is an unstoppable people builder, pastor and published author on a mission to equip her audiences with well-crafted strategies for successful living. Whether on the road preaching or at home in the bay area facilitating soft skills workshops, Rev T brings a special blend of energy, humor and passion to the table. Her 25 plus years of experience includes seasons of coordinating an employment program for youth at risk, serving as an artist in residence for both California and Alaska’s art councils, as well as a nine-year stint as a literacy specialist. Additionally, she enjoyed a robust career as an actress and graced stages internationally with a wide array of quirky characters.  One of those characters, Lucille Nadine Alexander, appears now as a character in one of the children’s books McNair has authored. Vicki Faden Millar is a 35-year teaching veteran with a passion for working with children. Vicki’s aim is to help students discover the joy of expression while acquiring greater self-esteem and discipline in a creative, non-threatening environment.  Vicki received a Master of Arts degree in Modern Dance from Brigham Young University with an emphasis in pedagogy and performance. She taught in Physical Education/Dance at BYU-Provo, Indiana University, and BYU-Hawaii. As an Artist-in-Education, Vicki has taught in public schools K-12 and in special education facilities throughout the country. As a Fine Arts Specialist, Vicki developed a modality based fine arts curriculum for early elementary education in Livermore, CA. Vicki also works with dance and physical educators nationally and internationally assisting them in lesson development and teaching styles.  Vicki currently teaches in the Department of Kinesiology at Diablo Valley College, is a Vinyasa Yoga Instructor, and a director/choreographer for Behold Dance Collective in Oakland, CA. Vicki loves her Gurus pupils and is excited to be part of the Gurus Education program. 


Dr. Kodili Nnadozie is a Nigerian-American raised in Maryland, but has lived in California for the last 5 years. He received his PhD in neuroscience with a specialty in cognitive development. He has taught for over nine years, from K to College with a wide array of experiences, including public speaking and debates. Kodili is also writing a mental health book.


Larry Elkins Currently is a motivational/inspirational speaker and sales manager for EGA Marketing in San Jose California. He has written two books that is in the publishing process right now. The first book is called " The Concept of Love" and the second is called "God, according to all religions". Larry enjoys mediating and educating himself on everything that is inspiring and self-empowering. He believes that the best way to master something is to teach it. Larry feels blessed to be a Public Speaking and Debates teacher for Gurus Education. He believes that life is an open book and we are all authors.



Ms. DeLano is a recent graduate of UC Berkeley where she earned a Bachelor's degree in History and a minor in Education, graduating with honors. She taught in elementary and middle schools in Oakland and Berkeley throughout her college career, focusing on literacy training and subject tutoring. Ms. DeLano plans on pursuing a Masters in Education and earning a teaching credential in order to teach at the high school level. She loves interacting with students and helping each one recognize and achieve their potential. Ms. DeLano gained extensive experience in public speaking and debate through competing on her high school's Mock Trial and Model United Nations teams for four years. 

When she is not teaching her Gurus she works as a tutor at Dublin High School in the areas of math, science, social studies, English and writing. Apart from teaching, Ms. DeLano loves long distance running, hiking around the beautiful Bay Area, trying new recipes, practicing Mandarin, and learning about the world around her.


Lori Edwards graduated from Chico State University with a degree in Communication Studies and a Minor in Theatre Arts.  She spent fifteen years in the toy and gift industry in marketing and design and has presented to major toy companies all over the world.  Lori now teaches after school enrichment classes to youth in the north bay. Her classes consists of public speaking, toy inventing, engineering, industrial arts and soccer.  She is a mom, mentor, toy inventor, and coach who is passionate about teaching children self confidence and leadership skills through the art of public speaking. 


John Mark Perchalski graduated cum laude in English from San Jose State University before continuing on to a Masters in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Primarily focused on improving the world through bettering people's ability to communicate with each other, he has been an Adjunct Lecturer in SJSU's remedial English program, and a tutor to students ranging from 6th grade through retirement. In addition to teaching Public Speaking & Debate at Gurus, he currently mentors international executives (primarily Japanese, Taiwanese and Chinese) in Business English, U.S. Corporate and Customer Culture, and Presentation Skills. John's previous employers have included executives at Lockheed-Aerojet, NASA, Apple, Netscape, and AOL. His hobbies include fiction and non-fiction writing, reading across all curriculums and genres, and hiking.



Tripti Singh graduated from the California State University East Bay majoring in Business (MBA) with a concentration in finance/Accounting.   She has worked in the Finance field for 5+ years, and  have also volunteered with the GATE (Gifted and Talented)  association with the FUSD for 2 years. Ms Tripti loves working with children and have been tutoring them for the last 10 years in various subjects. She’s a member of the Toast Masters club in Fremont.  She loves art, music and working with children. 



Steven Yee finds great joy in making time to help guide youths to constantly improve with valuable life skills especially in regards to debating, public speaking, and financial literacy.

With over 18 years of experience in HR leadership, consulting, training, and operations, he is currently founder and principal of GravitateTraining geared to support micro- to mid-sized enterprises.  Whether for major organizations, start-ups, or start-up operations within major organizations such as Kaiser-Permanente or Monster.com, his direct contributions and strategic guidance have helped diverse businesses nationwide do better business.  In addition, Steven shares great pride in facilitating the development of high potential leaders as well as members considering professional careers.  While holding a degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, he is also recognized by the HR Certification Institute (HRCI) and Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as a certified HR professional.

Moreover, Steven has enjoyed greatly volunteering and serving for various non-profit groups, including Community Technology Network, Habitat for Humanity, the National Association of Asian-American Professionals, the Northern California HR Association, and the National Diversity Council. 



Mr. Vincent Walker served four years in the United States Marine Corps where he gained the rank of Sergeant. He currently studies Communications at Las Positas College where he competes on their award winning Rhetoric & Debate team. Mr. Vincent is a nationally and internationally ranked competitor in both the International Forensics Association and the Northern California Forensics Association (NCFA); he is also recognized by California State Legislature as the world champion in Informative Speaking in 2016. Competing both home and abroad, Mr. Walker has taken trophies from all over California as well as in Vienna, Austria. Including gold medals in persuasive, informative, and comedic speaking, and oral interpretation of literature. Upon completion of the 2015/2016 NCFA circuit, Mr. Vincent finished as the top overall speaker in Northern California. At the first tournament of the 2016/2017 circuit, the San Francisco Golden Gate Opener, Mr. Vincent won his 4th top overall speaker award, and a full ride into the National Communication Association. He deeply appreciates the opportunity to help build children's confidence and hopes to help create a generation of students that are not afraid to say what they mean and mean what they say.


Michael David has been an entrepreneur in the financial services industry since 2008.  He is an Investment Advisor Representative and currently runs his own financial advisory practice with his wife Sheila teaching families how to create and grow multi-generational wealth. Previously, Michael spent a decade in Information Technology working with Fortune 500 companies such as Genentech.  Michael graduated with a BA in English Literature from UCSC and has also been successful in speech and debate.  He has taken gold medal placements in regional tournaments and has received scholarships for his participation in speech writing contests.  In summary, Michael continues to strive and serve the community by sharing his passion for education and financial literacy.  He is excited and grateful to partner up with Gurus Educational Services to extend his reach by teaching students the basic and fundamental life skills that will ultimately carry them forward in their studies and careers in the future.



Ms Norma Mondy attended college at UCLA and San Francisco, earning a Bachelors in Communications Studies, Sociology and a Masters in Speech Communication.  She has taught public speaking at the middle, high school, and college level.  Teaching is her passion and she loves working with young students.  In her free time she enjoys singing (She’s a lead singer in a choir), cooking, playing online Yahtzee and Candy Crush and spending time with her daughter.  


Christopher Lim is a passionate and enthusiastic educator. He is an adjunct professor with San Jose State University in the College of Business. A public speaking and debate instructor working with students in all grade levels. He’s a global executive who has worked with multi-national firms over the past 25 years in the field of logistics and supply chain. Christopher holds a Master’s degree in International Marketing from University of Strathclyde and is currently a Ph.D candidate in Management with Walden University. He loves music, plays the guitar, and runs to stay healthy.
